Reach Ability Celebrates 50 Years with a Photo Exhibition

Reach Ability Celebrates 50 Years of Service with a Special Exhibition

On Friday, 17th October 2025, Reach Ability proudly launched our “50 Years of Reach Ability” photo exhibition at our Bellefield Design. This marked an incredible milestone, five decades of service, support, and community connection.

Formerly known as CWCW Enniscorthy, Reach Ability has been at the heart of disability services in Co. Wexford since 1975. Our 50th Anniversary Exhibition takes visitors on a journey through the past five decades. Featuring a rich collection of photographs, videos, and memorabilia that bring to life the stories, people, and achievements that have shaped who we are today.

The exhibition has a nostalgic “Reeling in the Years” feel. Celebrating friendships, milestones, and moments that have defined Reach Ability’s history. It’s open to the public free of charge until Saturday, 25th October. We invite everyone, past and present service users, staff, volunteers, families, and community members. Come along, reminisce, and celebrate this special occasion with us.

Launch Event Highlights

The launch event was beautifully led by Trevor Jacob, CEO of Reach Ability. Trevor acted as MC and opened proceedings by thanking the incredible service users, staff (past and present), volunteers, funders, board members, and the wider community who have all played a role in making Reach Ability what it is today.

Michael Dee, who served as Secretary on the very first committee in 1964, brought guests down memory lane with wonderful stories about “where it all began.” He recalled how the community came together to raise £42,000 to start an adult disability service, an inspiring reminder of the passion and generosity that have carried Reach Ability through the decades.

David Wrafter, Chairman of Reach Ability, shared a few heartfelt words, reflecting on how evident it is that Reach Ability’s staff truly care for and support each individual they work with. He spoke warmly about the dedication he witnesses each time he visits the service. The smiles, the energy, and the genuine connections that make Reach Ability such a special place. His message was one of deep appreciation for the entire team. Past and present, whose commitment continues to shape the organisation’s success.

Following David’s speech, Karen Fitzgerald, General Manager of the HSE, gave a thoughtful presentation. This was on the importance of organisations like Reach Ability and their impact within the community. During her speech, Karen shared a phrase that resonated deeply with many in attendance “What’s rare is beautiful.” We were also honoured to have Rev. Nicola Halford offer a special prayer and blessing, wishing Reach Ability continued success in the years ahead.

Cutting The Ribbon

The formal proceedings concluded with Jamie Pollard cutting the ribbon to officially open the exhibition. Guests then enjoyed a guided tour with Trevor Jacob and Trish Hogan, sharing laughter, memories, and stories that brought our history vividly to life.

The atmosphere was full of nostalgia and pride as staff members and service users joined in, reeling in the years together. Visitors were invited to sign our guest book, ensuring their names become part of Reach Ability’s history for future generations to see.

It was truly a wonderful day of reflection and community spirit.
