Kilcannon Porridge bread recipe

At Kilcannon Garden Centre and Restaurant, we take pride in bringing the best from our garden to your table. As part of our “Recipe from the Garden” series, we’re excited to share the recipe for August, our irresistible Porridge Bread.

This wholesome, hearty bread is a staple in our restaurant, and now you can recreate it at home and enjoy the taste of Kilcannon on those days you can’t pop into us.

Kilcannon Recipe Ingredients:

• Porridge Oats: 300g
• Salt: 1 teaspoon
• Bread Soda: 1 teaspoon
• Buttermilk: 500ml
• Egg: 1 large
• Oil: 1 dessert spoon

 

Kilcannon Recipe Method:

• Pre-heat the oven to 160°C.
• Prepare a 1lb loaf tin by lightly oiling it and dusting with flour to prevent sticking.
• In a large mixing bowl, combine the dry ingredients: Porridge Oats, Bread Soda and Salt.
• Add one dessert spoon of Oil, a Large Egg, and 500ml of buttermilk to the mixture.
• Mix well to form a nice wet batter.
• Pour the mixture into the prepared tin.
• Bake for 1 hour and 10 minutes until the bread is golden brown.
• Remove from the oven, turn out the bread and let it cool.
