On May 8th, Reach Ability had the honour of attending The Disability Show at the Curragh Racecourse and what an unforgettable day it was. From start to finish, the event was a celebration of empowerment, inclusion, and the incredible strength of the Disability community.
The Disability Show
The show brought together individuals, organisations, advocates, and allies from all over, with a shared focus on visibility, understanding, and progress. The day centred around powerful and timely themes such as hidden disabilities, social inclusion, sport, education, and entertainment. It created a vibrant and engaging space where people could connect, learn from one another, and share their stories.
For Reach Ability, it was a moment of great pride. We were represented by a passionate and dedicated group of individuals who embody our core values every day. Shanice O’Connor Moorehouse, Secretary of our Advocacy Committee, brought her insight and leadership to the day’s discussions. Jamie Pollard, Chairperson of the Advocacy Committee, represented the voice of our community with energy and commitment. Eoin Craven, Advocacy Representative from our Burkes Hub, shared his experiences and perspectives, highlighting the importance of representation and inclusion. And Sarah Hurlihy, Chairperson of the Events Committee, helped bring energy, enthusiasm, and a strong sense of celebration to the event.
Each of them played an important role in showcasing the mission and spirit of Reach Ability. They spoke with confidence, connected with others across the sector, and reminded everyone that behind every label or diagnosis is a story of ability, ambition, and potential.
Thoughts After the Show
Events like The Disability Show are more than just gatherings, they are platforms for change. They remind us why advocacy matters and why every voice, every journey, and every contribution counts. At Reach Ability, we are proud to be part of this movement and to work every day toward a more inclusive and empowering future for all.
We left the event feeling inspired, motivated, and grateful, not only for the opportunity to attend, but for the ongoing chance to make a difference in the lives of those we support.
