Bring Autumn Colour Into Your Garden

 

Autumn has officially arrived! That magical time when the garden puts on its own fireworks display of rich reds, glowing golds, and warm bronzes. We just love it, don’t you? While summer blooms may be fading, this is definitely not the season for dull gardens! At Kilcannon Garden Centre, we’ve got a stunning selection of plants that will keep your outdoor spaces glowing with colour, texture, and life right through the colder months.

Autumn Showstoppers

Here are a few of our current favourites lighting up the garden beds (and our plant benches!):

Firstly, we have Houttuynia cordata ‘Chameleon’
This ground-cover beauty brings a mix of green, yellow, cream, and red in every leaf. It’s like Autumn wrapped up in one little plant. So, it loves a damp spot and it adds a splash of colour where other plants might start to fade. Just a little note for you: it’s vigorous, so give it space to shine (or a pot to keep it contained).

Secondly, Convolvulus cneorum (Silverbush)
For a touch of a silver shimmer, this evergreen is a gem. With its soft, silvery leaves and delicate white blooms that pop against the foliage, it brings a bright, crisp look to borders and containers alike. Perfect for reflecting those golden autumn rays! Also, I don’t know about you, but it gives me a little Christmas magic too…

Thirdly, Aucuba japonica ‘Rozannie’
If you’re after something tough, glossy, and good-looking all year round, this is the plant for you. ‘Rozannie’ has deep green, leathery leaves and it produces clusters of red berries in winter. It’s the perfect contrast to duller garden days. Great for shady corners too!

Next up, Heuchera ‘Orangeberry’ (Coral Bells)
Oh, we love a Heuchera! ‘Orangeberry’ is all about rich, warm tones. So, think burnt orange with a subtle berry blush. These beauties are perfect for pots, borders, or underplanting shrubs. Plus, their foliage looks good all year round.

Fifth in our list, Helichrysum splendidum
Also known as the liquorice plant. This silvery, aromatic wonder brings soft texture and a hint of fragrance. It’s great for adding contrast and pairs beautifully with bold colours like reds, purples, and oranges.

Next, Sarcococca ‘Winter Gem’ (Sweet Box)
When the days start to get shorter, ‘Winter Gem’ steps up. This evergreen shrub produces small, creamy-white flowers with the most heavenly scent in mid to late Winter. Just when you need it most. Plant it near a doorway or path where you and everyone can enjoy the fragrance.

Lastly, we got Photinia ‘Pink Marble’
A fabulous twist on a garden classic! ‘Pink Marble’ has striking pink and cream variegation on glossy green leaves. It’s bold, cheerful, and a total mood-lifter for Autumn and beyond. A perfect choice for hedging or a colourful focal point.
